Excited!!!

In just a few days, Brent and I will be traveling to Israel!  We have been eagerly awaiting this opportunity.  We plan to pack light and carry our limited ‘inklings of Israel’ with us. Our hope is that we will be stretched by our 2-week adventure in the Holy Land and return with more than just an inkling to share and to shape our next steps in following Jesus.  We invite you to journey with us as we share photos & tidbits along the way at:  https://inklingsofisrael.blogspot.com/

We will be joining one of the Shoresh Study Tours, led by dear friends of ours.  "Shoresh" is the Hebrew word for "root". Our focus area will be “The Roots of Faith”.  You can check out Shoresh Study Tours at https://www.cmjisrael.org/shoresh-tours .  

According to our itinerary, “We will travel through the land, from coast to desert to mountains, to visit the places where important Biblical events took place and dig deep into the Scriptures in their original context to learn about God’s faithfulness to His people, in the past, present, and future.  Our tour includes sites from the Old and New Testament as well as the history of modern Israel.  In addition, we will learn about God’s work amongst believers in the land today.  Jesus will always be the center of our studies, as we seek a better understanding of His ministry, His place among the Jewish people, and the application of His teachings in our lives.”

Day 12: Mount of Olives, Garden of Gethsemane, Pools of Bethesda, Garden Tomb, Via Dolorosa

We began the day at the  Mount of Olives  with a panoramic view of Jerusalem.  David pointed out many sites of interest, both those we had visited and historical sites we wouldn’t be visiting but were helpful in understanding the geography and history of the area.  The Mount of Olives is east of Jerusalem across the  Kidron Valley .  Jesus visited there several times in the week leading up to His crucifixion and that hill has been used as a Jewish cemetery for nearly 3 millenia.  There were many street vendors there and we took a group picture on that overlook before beginning our walk down to the  Garden of Gethsemane , the site where Jesus agonized in prayer before He was betrayed by Judas and arrested by the Sanhedrin. Day 3 - Wilderness, Camels... What Next?

Day 3 started with a trip to the Ben Gurion Tomb and Heritage Institute.  This is in honor of David Ben Gurion, Israel’s 1 st  Prime Minister and his wife.  It is located in the middle of the wilderness and its beautiful landscaping and green, lush trees were in stark contrast to the barrenness of the desert beyond.  A man-made oasis that is being carefully maintained. We were all excited to spot several sure-footed Ibex walking along the low, stone walls.  One looked as if he had fallen and I ran to check on him only to find him happily leaping across rocks on the side of a cliff like a pro.  From there we drove about 5 minutes to park and then enjoyed a walk in the wilderness along the base of the Zin Canyon.  It was still in the cool of the morning and in the shade so it was a treat.  We stopped at a pool of water and contemplated what it might have been like for the Israelites as they wandered as well.  As we retraced our steps a bit late...
